Transition to Trades
is an approved Career Skills Program (CSP) developed by Hiller Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electrical and U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Campbell. Transition to Trades, launched on July 5, 2016, allows transitioning service members the opportunity to attend Total Tech trade school (a subsidiary of Hiller, LLC) to learn valuable technical career skills while remaining active duty in the U.S. Military.
Total Tech offers a unique approach to technician training through classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction in a 15,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility. As part of the program, students are guaranteed an employment interview at a Hiller branch location of their choosing. Service members desiring to return to their hometowns are provided key industry contact information to aid in employment searches in those respective areas.
Our Mission
To provide active duty service members with solid, well-paying, respected career placement options as they transition out of the Army. Careers in Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical are an ideal fit for transitioning service members because of transferable skills developed during their military service. Our goal is to pair these top-tier service members with companies looking to train and employ hardworking individuals for long-term careers.
The Transition to Trades program allows service members to utilize their GI Bills© and start work within weeks, learning from experienced technicians in the field and in state-of-the-art laboratories. We also provide a business network of contractors in the industry who are looking to hire and develop talent in veterans. Transition to Trades is here to help veterans that are transitioning from active duty succeed in their careers.

Jimmy Hiller has built an extraordinarily successful, multi-state business on a simple yet powerful concept, “Care is Our Core Value.” When he founded Hiller Plumbing in 1990, Hiller created a business model that focused on three essential elements: a high level of professional skill, a positive attitude and the integrity to do the job right. Customers responded to this straightforward approach, and he rewarded them with a promise that, “Happy You’ll Be or The Service is Free.”
In the years that followed, this two-time Southern Golden Glove boxing champion turned a one-man, one-truck operation into a regional leader, with more than 600 employees and 450 vehicles serving more than 30,000 customers across three states. Since the company’s founding, Hiller Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electrical has made more than a million service calls, and continues to grow at a double-digit pace, with the expansion of its service offering and through targeted acquisitions.
Jimmy continues to be actively involved in the day-to-day operation of Hiller, and has turned his focus to building a new generation of professionals whose commitment to the customer experience is driven by the core values on which his business was originally founded. That’s why Hiller created Transition to Trades. This program allows Jimmy to pass along his 33+ years of experience to transitioning service members who have sacrificed so much for our country.
